Teaching the Prenatal Body Within Non-Prenatal Yoga Classes Prenatal Yoga Primer with Christina Martin

This 3-hour prenatal primer was designed for non-prenatal certified yoga teachers and teacher trainees. During this module we will touch on the basic principles of integrating safe yoga modifications for Prenatal and Postnatal Students in most flow-based classes. Acquire new insight or improve your understanding about teaching to the prenatal body within a non-prenatal yoga class. We will discuss Pre/Postnatal anatomy, physiology, and gentle precautions as we approach the importance of “Mama” mind-body connection through labor. Gain confidence in your abilities to integrate safe flow sequences, postures and poses, pranayama, and meditation for prenatal students in your non-prenatal classes.
This class is intended as a yoga teacher primer and does not certify or qualify teachers to instruct prenatal yoga, private prenatal clients, or prenatal specialty classes.
Come prepared to move and explore the journey into yoga from the prenatal lens.

The Art of Yoga Project, Site Director/ Los Gatos Breathe Together, Faculty Teacher Trainer
Christina is a Vinyasa based yoga teacher, and community activist. Originally from the Bay Area, she attended UC Santa Cruz where she studied Psychology and found her love for yoga. She began teaching yoga in 2009 and went on to receive both 200- and 500-hour certifications under the guidance of her mentor, Jennifer Prugh in 2012. Christina obtained her PRYT (prenatal registered yoga teacher) and Doula certification from Jennifer More in 2013. Soon after, she became the Prenatal Yoga Educator for “Breathe Together” and Joy of Yoga’s teacher training program in 2013-present. Christina has served at-risk/ gang affiliated youth for over 17 years. She is a Site Director for the Art of Yoga Project; which provides culturally-sensitive yoga programing to teenage girls in the juvenile justice system and underserved communities in Santa Clara and Sacramento Counties. Christina is a yoga teacher trainer instructing Yoga & Cultural Humility; Yoga Approach to Youth Trauma; and Prenatal Yoga in studios and programs throughout Santa Clara and Sacramento Counties.
Christina is known for her ability to encompass soulful connections with her students and her community. Her strength and passion for life is conveyed through her teachings as she aims to inspire a world where all worlds fit.
